An excerpt from Aram Heller’s book on the 60’s New England Garage Scene “Till The Stroke of Dawn”...
“Garage bands from the Lowell, Massachusetts area all competed in a Battle of the Bands on September 11, 1966. The night of the battle, the recording end did not go so well. So, engineer Pat Costa took all the bands into a studio the next day, recorded one song from each band in rapid succession, and pieced together a compilation of the tracks with dubbed in applause. This explains the sameness of all the bands. All of the tracks were fairly weak covers of hits of the day. This was reissued almost exactly as the original by Star Rhythm in 1985.”
