Lolas - Ballerina Breakout

Ballerina Breakout, another album of infectious and brilliant power pop from the Lolas.

Lolas - Silver Dollar Sunday

The Lolas deliver some excellent power pop on Silver Dollar Sunday, their second release. The melodies and hooks are in plentiful abundance on this charmer.

The Hookers - Satan’s Highway

Satan’s Highway, some great trashy southern fried punk from this Lexington Kentucky band. Fans of Nine Pound Hammer and Nashville Pussy are sure to find this agreeable.

The Hookers - Black Visions of Crimson Wisdom

After Satan's Highway the Hookers take a more heavy metal approach with Black Visions of Crimson Wisdom. Basically a whole new band with the exception of The Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw on vocals. As far as metal albums go this thing is really good, it rocks with conviction. The Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw’s vocals are perfect and the band just cranks away at breakneck speed. This should appeal to fans of hardcore and heavy metal alike.

The Morning Shakes - Lotta Trash! Lotta Action!! (1996)

Yet another great band playing some great trashy rock 'n'roll, these guys hailed from New York and managed to release two long players before splitting up. Lotta Trash! Lotta Action!! their first was released in 1996 on Forty Watt Records, produced by Steve Baise of the Devil Dogs.

The Morning Shakes - Switchblades And Sideburns (1998)

Switchblades and Sideburns, the second album from The Morning Shakes. It’s too bad this would be the bands last effort, because they were really firing on all cylinders when they recorded this one. Released on Stiff Pole Records in 1998.

The Crusaders - Fat, Drunk, and Stupid (1998)

If you’re looking for the Jazz Crusaders you will most likely be terrified from the sounds within. On the other hand if you’re looking for those crazy medieval looking dudes from Sydney Australia that play some excellent amped up garage punk then you have hit pay dirt my friend. Fat, Drunk, and Stupid is the bands first full length release, released in 1998 on Dionysus records. Remember “fat drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son!”

The Dirtys - You Should Be Sinnin (1997)

More great trashy rock ‘n‘ roll, this time from The Dirtys from Port Huron, Michigan. Listening to You You Should Be Sinnin one can easily appreciate the bands reputation for destructive shows and being banned from certain clubs on occasion. This thing rocks with fervent authority, meant to be played at an obnoxiously loud volume for full effect.

Sugar Shack - Shotgun For Two (1994)

As long as I’m posting criminally overlooked and underrated bands from the mid nineties, let’s look at Sugar Shack from Houston Texas. Shotgun For Two was their second release, the independently released Charmer was their first in 1992. The band plays in a punky garage/trash rock style which is sure to please.

Sugar Shack - Five Weeks Ahead Of My Time (1997)

Five Weeks Ahead of My Time, the third release from Sugar Shack, 14 more infectious punked up garage rock tunes. The band switched to Estrus for this and subsequent releases, an excellent fit if you ask me. Not that it matters a pinch of shit, but this is my favorite Sugar Shack release.

The Royal Pendletons - Oh Yeah, Baby

Out of New Orleans comes The Royal Pendletons with their first long player Oh Yeah, Baby, produced by the band and Alex Chilton (Box Tops, Big Star), recorded in 1995. This record has a great live in the studio vibe, if you dig a mix of garage/frat/surf with a pumping Farfisa organ you will love this one. Unfortunately this is out of print at this time, snooze you lose.
